I am not a rugby player but for the gym or volleyball, I tend to like my shorts 7 inches or lower. Never thought I'd go as low as 5.5 inches (as these are) but they are great. I will say that for someone with thinner legs, these may not look all that flattering but do you actually care what people think? But for the folks with medium to muscular legs, these are definitely very flattering.Again, not too short and not too long. I'm about 5'10 so the shorts are around mid way.I have a 32" waist and I went with the 34" shorts. This is perfect. I also tried on the 36" and while they fit, the leg open is just way too wide and loose. Also, for some that may not know, depending on what you wear underneath these shorts, if you squat or sit, you may bare some parts of you that you shouldn't. So I recommend wearing a pair of boxer briefs.I got these for Women's rugby, and they fit comfortably while being longer than most rugby shorts. These were my first rugby shorts, and I was impressed by them. One of my teammates had an older version of the same pair and they were smaller, so that could be something to consider. They are snug where they need to be for a scrum, but loose enough you can get where you need to be. There is a tie in the waist that I suggest using. They also have pockets, which I liked. The pockets are deep enough you won't lose anything. I put my mouth guard in them and thought it was lost, then played a 7s tournament with it in my pocket, noticing in the second match. They have held up well to washing, but I always hang to dry. I think they can hold up to drying, but I don't know if they would shrink or stiffen.Man these shorts are heavy duty yet comfy they don't ride up your crotch when you are running and its been two full seasons in these and the color still holds. No rips or tears and all the grim and grass washes right off. They look good and I think I will stick to canterburry when these eventually give out which from the looks of things wont be anytime soon. I wear a 36 or 38 in pants and bought a large pair. They fit real nice and I would go with the conversion chart unless you have a pair and you are replicating your true fit. I get lifted on line outs and these are a perfect must buy for any rugby player. .Rugby shorts always run small, so I bought 2 sizes up from past experience. The fabric is polyester, but I figured that the elastic waste band might shrink a bit - and it did a small amount - so I did ok on the size. Side pockets are deep, which is what I wanted. Inseam is 4 inches. The leg openings are wide, to allow for beefy ruby players to scrum without ripping the seems out. For the few times that I need a little more coverage, I'll wear compression shorts under these. I love the style and the color (dark blue). These shorts seem nice at first, but after running around in them for a few minutes I can begin to see some downfalls. They are extremely durable, but have ZERO flexibility. While wearing these I feel so restricted in my movements it's unbearable. I like wearing my rugby shorts for more than just playing rugby, i.e. biking, trail running, etc... Unfortunately, I find that these shorts really hold me back. They look and fit nice while I am just standing around, but the moment I start getting creative in my movements it is as if they put a limit on how far I can lift my legs. I have a hard time finding shorts that offer durability as well as flexibility and these shorts are a good example of that.Great shorts that fit well. They're long enough that I don't feel like I'm playing basketball in the 70's but short enough to allow full range of motion even with the tough fabric. I get lifted occasionally in lineouts and my lifters have no complaints about my shorts (even though they mostly seem to agree that I could stand to lose a couple pounds, which is amusing advice coming from guys who have at least a full bill on me). They also seem to keep their color better than the straight canvas shorts other guys have, so that's a bonus as well.I have three pairs of these and from what I've seen they're nearly indestructible.First off, not a 5.5" inseam. Maybe 3". Second, I bought these to work out at the gym in but the material has like zero stretch. It is very durable feeling, but no stretch so not exactly the most comfortable to walk around in or lift in. Especially on leg day. It's a shame because the shorts do seem rigid enough to stand the test of time and look pretty cool, but they are just not comfortable to work out in.Maybe I didn't get the right size? I'm usually a 28 in pants so I went with a 28. I'm 5'9" about 150 pounds. Athletic build. I'm a cyclist so most of my weight is in my legs. They are pretty snug when I went with my typical pant size. The waist isn't the issue so much as the hips and ass region. The lack of give in the material could be the reasoning behind this.Well constructed rugby shorts, but they were a little tight on me in both the butt and thigh. But that's mostly because I have big thighs and so the fabric pulled there, but they'll work great for any normal person!
